<note>This study aims to analyze the public speaking abilities of the character Ferdinan in the film Kaka Boss through the lens of Aristotle's rhetorical theory and Todorov's narrative analysis paradigm. The research focuses on how Ferdinan plays various communicative roles in different dramatic situations, and how rhetorical elements (ethos, pathos, logos) are used in each role transition.
Public speaking skills are an essential element of communication, particularly in the entertainment and film industry, as they shape a character’s image and influence audience perception. This study focuses on analyzing the public speaking techniques of the character Ferdinan in the film “Kaka Boss”, who is portrayed as dominant, charismatic, and humorous. The analysis is based on Aristotle’s rhetorical theory, which emphasizes three main pillars: ethos, pathos, and logos. The objective of this research is to identify how these rhetorical aspects are applied in Ferdinan’s dialogues and actions, and to evaluate their effectiveness in building persuasive communication.
The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using content analysis. Data were collected through documentation and transcription of the film’s dialogues, which were then categorized according to the indicators of each rhetorical element. The analysis considers situational context, communication purpose, and the responses of other characters.
The findings reveal that Ferdinan consistently utilizes all three Aristotelian rhetorical elements, although their proportions vary depending on the communication context. Ethos is demonstrated through credibility built from social status, confidence, and assertive personality. Pathos appears in emotional appeal through the use of humor, dramatic expressions, and supportive body language. Logos is evident in logical argumentation, structured sentence construction, and the choice of diction that reinforces persuasive messages. The combination of these elements enables Ferdinan to play his role effectively and create engaging communication with the audience.
In conclusion, the success of Ferdinan’s persuasive public speaking lies in his ability to balance ethos, pathos, and logos according to the conversational context. This study is expected to contribute to rhetorical analysis in film media and serve as a reference for developing public communication skills in the entertainment industry.</note>
